Happy New Year

Hey all -
I want to wish you a happy New Year.
I personally hope we will see some big changes here in 2012. For the better.

So to get into the right gear, this is the video for the song "Reality Check"
(I think it will be track one - on the demo)
We have been listening to the mix, and need to make the last final changes, but the demo should be ready soon ...

Mean while: Enjoy this pre-realese.
(It will make you ready for the Future Shock coming soon)

December 4

So now we are almost done with the demo -

I did some backing vocals friday, and Hill have also made a percussion track.

We meet up next week to try and do a raw mix, and listen to the 7 tracks we've got , and then select the 2 or 3 songs, for the demo, and finish the cover art.

We talked about using all the 7 songs, to make a whole album, for the fans - If we've got any ?

And we have also rehearsed a little. Actually we are ALMOST ready to play some live-gigs, we've got 11 songs we can play and that's more than 45 minutes, so we are almost ready. Just need a little more rehearsing, I guess.

Also it would be cool to call in a second guitarist, to do the rhythm-guitar live, that gives me more room to concentrate on the vocals, and my leads. The guy i had in mind (actually the only one I can think of) is really busy so he won't be joining us right now.

We've got more details to work on. Like getting a good sound-engineer at the gigs, and perhaps a roadie, and transportation. All the practical stuff that I was never good at... But plenty of time to worry, we haven't even got a single gig yet.

All that will change when we send the demo out. That's our goal anyway.

Here's a look at the Future Shock logo. As it looks in a preview of the poster we are making.

What a day !!!

So ...

A few days ago i started mixing on the demo.

I had some problems with the software, so i tried with different programs and approaches, but same thing happened over and over.

I had to convert the tracks from 32 bit to 16 bit. If you don't know what i'm talking about, it's fine. It's not that important anyway- So... Now the session loads really quick, and editing is now like a dream. And the best: No software crashes.

We have 8 tracks - But for now i will only edit the guitar track, the lead track, and the vocal track. The other 5 drum tracks is taken care of by our drummer Hill. He is very experienced in making the drums sound cool. And the last track, the bass is soon edited by Blid i guess.

Right now i finished the 2 guitar tracks (the rhythm and leads). So now it's the vocals. That's where i'm a bit stuck - Have to find the exact right effects to use. I start with muting the parts not used. That's easy. But then i have to find the right equalization, removing some bass and treble. Then i hopefully find the right kind of compressor. I finish of with echoing parts of the songs, where it fits, usually the last word in the verse. Yeah i know, it's classic, but it works. And chorus is a great effect too.

Yesterday i recorded the vocals to an extra song we made, and also the leads for that, so now we have got 7 good songs to choose from.

Today we meet up to listen and choose and make adjustments. And perhaps put on the extras: The backing vocals and some tambourine, and maybe a cowbell?

Thanks for reading.

16 November 2011

16 November 2011

I just wanted to post a quick update, since the Future Shock Blog just went online ...

The demo is going to become very good, i think - It's hard to tell before it's done. But i've got a nice feeling about it.

So we got all the tracks now, except a few overlays. Perhaps a tambourine on some of the riffs, some more vocals, cowbell, whatever we can think of. We can easily put more tracks on top of the basic tracks, it will be fun.

Then it is time do do the mixing, that will take some time. All the drum tracks needs to be corrected for noise and the vocals need effects - we got 8 tracks so far, so it will take a while. Meanwhile im doing some artwork for the cover and we hope to get the demo finished soon, it will only be a few songs, maybe 3, and the rest of the songs will be released on an EP, more about that later ... Next week perhaps.

This week we are rehearsing with the band, A Tree of Night
We have got a gig on Friday.

Yes it will be fun, we are looking forward. Also Darklands is playing, another band from Helsingør. It's lyrics in danish, check it out here: DARKLANDS

So who said Helsingør is a booring town ? It depends on how you look at it, i guess...

Lovely Helsingør !!!

See U senere ....

A few news

11-October-2011

Great news all,
We recently started rehearsing again, with a new bass player. We are gonna make a recording, a demo in the next weeks. And hopefully we get to play some live-gigs, it's been 3 years since last gig. So just like the old times, it's me on guitars and vocals, Hill on the drums, and Blid on bass

21- October-2011

I am really proud to announce, we are now in the middle of recording a new demo,
just 3-4 songs. It will be used to send out to the different places around, that would
have us play.

It's a kind of live recording, bass and drums and the rythm guitar, all down at
once, on 8 tracks. After we finished that, i have to but one more rythm guitar
on top, and the vocals and leads of course

The fact is, we should have done it five years ago, when i first started the
band. But because of difficulties finding a bass player, we never got to do it....

So it' about damn time, and so far it's going really well.

We had some cable problems, and one of the microphones
didn't work, the mixer we use, is very old and worn out.
But anyway we tried to record a bit, and the sound is good.

So Sunday we will continue, and hopefully play the songs
without too many errors.

When the demo is finished, we will make a video for one of the
tracks at least, and as said, i really hope to play some livegigs soon ...

24- October-2011

We had to do 15 takes of one of the songs. That's because we choose to record the basic tracks live, drums, bass and the rhythm guitar, it's very difficult to do without any errors.

But we managed to record 4 songs, and that is a lot. One of the songs we have to do over though, 'cos one of the tracks (the bass-track) was not right, there was some loose connection somewhere. We found out too late. That's a shame when we played it almost perfect.

So today, DAY 3 of the demo recording, we will get that last song recorded. And maybe do a few more. Then it's time to put leads and vocals on top, and that's my job, yeah. It will be fun today too ...

When it's all done, comes the hard part. Mixing. More about that later.

25- October-2011

Yesterday we learned one big lesson:

Never make a recording with gear, that you don't know....

We have to start all over now, because most of the tracks were filled with
noise from all the bad connections

So typical, really. I was so sad to find out. But our new bass player has
offered, that we can try a new recording at his place. He is such a cool mate
At his place we know the gear, and know that there will be no
loose connections making a lot of noise -

Our biggest fault, was to record all the songs, before we even checked
the noise on the tracks. I don't know why we didn't. I mean, we did, but
just not good enough

Update soon

08- November-2011

Everything is cool now

Friday and Saturday we are going to give it one more try. This time with different better gear, that we know works.

10- November-2011

Tomorrow at 11-

I had to share this hehe.
We just arranged to meet and drive all the gear to my friends place. We are gonna meet tomorrow at 11.
Yes ... I realized it afterwards - we start our demo recording 11-11-11- at 11.
Now it doesn't mean a thing to me, but it's a nice coincidence.

13- October-2011

Yeah this is becoming more like a diary, but the thread have got a few views, so here's an update ...
We met Friday at 11.11.11.11.11 -
Packed the stuff in the car, on our way. My friend has got the most beautiful place, just outside of town. We drove there with all the gear, and started to set up the mic's for the drums.

I had to go all the way back to get 3 mic's we forgot. The drums sounded great all mic'ed up. Then we made some guitar sound, great. The bas was not that good. A broken speaker was rumbling inside the cabinet. We took it out. And the bass sounded ok, actually, only on two speakers.

That was it, 5 hours or so it took. We played a few songs, and listened. Sound was great, no problems, no loose connections this time

So we split, and met at 11 Saturday. Actually I got there at 11, the others both overslept and came around 12. We had some coffee. And then we recorded the basic tracks for 6 songs, with bass, drums, and the rythm guitar. Sounded great. That's all we needed to do.

Now the tracks needed the leads (the solo-guitars) and vocals. And we had planned to do that later, back in the rehearsal. But we had planty of time, so I decided to put leads and vocals on top- It went smooth- no problems at all. And that was the end of a very long day. A great place, with great friends.

Now today we have to pack the gear, and get it back to our rehearsal- And get all 8 tracks down to the computer, so we can put some extra leads, and vocals on, later.
And the mixing of the tracks will take some time. But we will have the demo finished soon.
We make the covers and burn the CD's ourselves. We have this printer that can print a cover on the CD, and it is going to look homemade, but awesome, I'm sure we can get a few gigs with a demo like this ....

Future Shock

Hello all,

This is the blog for the band Future Shock.

My name is Cluas, im the Future Shock guitarist and vocalist. I started this blog, to make sort of a diary for the band. I got this blog too - If you can read danish, and if you don't already know me ...

So this first post will be a long one, to catch the backstory and follow up on what happened until a few months ago, when we started rehearsing again.

Here we go :

Future Shock became a reality in September 2006, when my old band split up. I was so tired of replacing bandmembers, that i made my own recording project. It started out with a few sketches and ideas. I ended up with a record over an hour, 17 songs. It had taken almost a year to complete. I was not working full time though, but a few hours every week. It was fun to make my own music, and to record it as good as i could myself. I didn't have access to drums at the time, so i used a sequencer program to play drums, i made it sound almost real, in my opinion.

My friends came by the rehearsal and helped me out, gave me good advice, and some of the songs are featuring some of them. I thought of the name Future Shock because of the book by same name, by Alvin Toffler.

I made a single release at September the 11. That's a good date to release my stuff. I made a cover and printed it out and burned the CD's myself. Made fifty records and gave them away to friends and fans. Soon i will need to burn more CD's. I have uploaded my songs to youtube, so that anyone can listen. And in case you already heard it, listen to it again, louder!

Hill, my old friend had also been in the band that broke up. We knew the way each other would play, and enjoyed playing together. So he asked me if we could play the songs live, and i though, why not. Future Shock was born. Me on vocals and guitar, and Hill on the Drums. We only needed a bass player, and after a while we found the first of many. Unfortunately, that has always been the problem for Future Shock, as a live band.

We rehearsed the songs that i made on the CD, but i also made new ones, more rock-oriented this time, i guess. But just before our first gig, our debut, in the summer 2007, the bass player and i disagreed on some issues the band halted.

I decided then to just record some more stuff alone and with guests. And i ended up with a whole CD of cover-songs, most of them unknown to public. It was also a fun project, and we learned a lot. This time i had recorded real drums, and it worked much better than having some sequencer doing the drums. I like both. I like al kinds of music, but no techno, no reggae. No thanks, disco i can live with, but only in very small doses. I like all kinds of rock, especially from the 70's.

On with the story. We got a new bass player, and i finished my new songs, with real drums. Only 4 of them made it, to an EP, that i was not really satisfied with. I remember it was because i had to release it at our debut show. But the bass player quit a month before. Another bass player came along, this time we finally got to play our debut-gig. 2008. And what a show. I got that on youtube as well. The sound is not that good, but it's ok. We played in a big hall, that's why it sounds a little hollow. We got an old bass player back, and played two more shows, and then we had a looong break. That's why I'm so happy for my friend Hill. He invited me to play guitars in A Tree of Night. So we always have something to do. Making music, now that's healty.

Future Shock took a long break as a live band, but i recorded more new songs in 2009 and 10. The first try got lost when the computer suddenly crashed. I cried. I never got to make that record. We tried more than once, but things always messed up. In the end i just decided to give it one more try, and at least make some sketches of my new songs. They weren't even new anymore. Never got satisfied enough to release the tracks.

Anyway, then after a few more months with no bass player, i suddenly got contacted by our old friend, Blid. He had been with us in 2007, almost from the start. It felt really good to get him back.

To be continued ...
